Fun Activities for Fall in Arizona

Arizona Bound

Here in Arizona, it's that gorgeous time of year where the weather becomes comfortable enough to go outside and enjoy all the natural beauty our great state has to offer. Try out these fun activities as we cool down for fall.

Take A Hike

No matter where you are in Arizona, there’s a local hiking spot nearby. Get inspired by the vortexes in Sedona, amazed by the wonder of nature at Tonto Natural Bridge State Park in Payson, and impressed by the striking stone formations at Chiricahua National Monument.

Whether you stay local or travel throughout the state, hiking gives you the opportunity to enjoy the desert blooms and unique geography all around you.

Visit A Ranch

Go horseback riding, experience a Cowboy Cookout complete with a ride, dinner, bonfire, and entertainment, or host your own event at MacDonald’s Ranch in Scottsdale.

In October, visit the Pumpkin Patch where you can enjoy the petting zoo, a hay-bale maze, and other entertainment, and, of course, get your pumpkins!

See the Fall Colors

The best part of fall is the changing autumn colors. Take a break from the typical desert scenery and visit the forests and mountains to see fall in all its splendor. Drive up Mount Lemmon and appreciate the crisp mountain air while you watch the leaves change to yellow, orange, and red. Enjoy the colorful sights and earthy scents of a forest trail as you wander through it.

Plan a Picnic

As you set off on your adventures, pack a picnic! Stop for a rest on your hike, drive or stroll and savor the natural beauty that surrounds you.

Let Fairs and Festivals Entertain You

There’s no shortage of corn mazes and pumpkin patches to entertain you in the fall. Visit one of Arizona’s many farms for traditional fall fun and special attractions unique to each farm.

In early November, bring the whole family—pets included!—to the Local First Arizona Fall Fest in Phoenix to shop local vendors, sample food from local restaurants, hear live music, and keep the kids entertained. Around the same time, you can start your holiday shopping at Arizona Harvest Fest in downtown Chandler and let the kids play in the fun zone.

Perhaps you're in the mood for some spooky fun as Halloween approaches. Jerome is known for being haunted, making it the perfect place for a creepy fall adventure. There are many different haunted tours to choose from, so you’ll be able to find one that is right for you.

Act Like a Tourist

Fall is a terrific time to visit some of the major attractions Arizona is known for. Get a close look at the eagles as you hike up the Grand Canyon. Take a guided tour of the beautiful Antelope Canyon. See the breathtaking views of Red Rock country as you hike along Devil’s Bridge Trail.
